Title

Con Con pressured to weaken stance on counties ’ tax powers

Description

The Constitutional Convention may weaken a proposal giving counties full powers over real estate taxation as a result of strong lobbying efforts by the Hawaiian Sugar Planters’ Association and others. Earlier, the Con Con had given the proposal almost unanimous support. Last night, county officials, HSPA officials and delegates representing the Neighbor Islands and employed by companies involved in agriculture met to work out a "compromise.”
