Our Collections
The University of Hawaiʻi School of Law Library Archive mission is twofold: 1) to preserve and make accessible records of enduring value regarding the history of the William S. Richardson School of Law and 2) to preserve and make accessible historically significant material regarding the local and regional legal community.
We hold the historical papers and faculty archive of the William S. Richardson School of Law, as well as the papers of Chief Justice William S. Richardson, Judge Samuel P. King, Law Professor Jon Van Dyke, Attorney Myer C. Symonds, Judge Betty Vitousek, Judge Myron H. Bright, and Attorney Richard Kanter. We also hold papers on the 1968-1978 Hawai'i Constitutional Convention Newsclippings, the H-3 Freeway Litigation, Pre-Statehood Congressional Documents on Hawaiʻi, and the Pacific Islands Committee 1990-2005. Please see the links below, or at the top "Finding Aids" button, to access these collections' finding aids.
This database allows researchers to do online searches across our finding aids and indexes, which lists the contents of each collection. Select items are digitized and made publicly available online. But other digitized items may require log in or contact with the Archives Manager to access, due to copyright and privacy reasons. All of our collections are accessible to public researchers by directly inquiring with the Archives Manager.
Visit the Access page for details on visiting the Archive. Visit the How To Search page to find out how to use this database's search engine.
Please Note: Our repository does not necessarily hold the copyrights, privacy permissions or releases, or publicity rights to all the items in our collections. Although the archives are accessible for educational, non-commercial purposes under the Fair Use Copyright Act, it is the researchers' obligation to determine the copyright status and holders, meet all holder requirements and honor restrictions.
